Register for our Virtual 5K & Fun Run!

Be part of Food for Others Tysons virtual 5K & Fun Run September 25-27th! Run (or walk) your 3.1 miles at your favorite spot with your family members, friends, or pets. Post your race photos on social media using the hashtag #Foodforothers5K. Prizes will be awarded for photos of the best race costume, most creative route, best pet photo, & more! All participants who register before September 10 will receive a t-shirt mailed to their home. 

Your $30 registration fee will provide rice and beans to 25 families. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. 

 

Meet FFO Client Katie

Katie recently moved to the Alexandria area with her daughter. Most of the families in her neighborhood do not have cars, and with the spread of COVID-19 they are hesitant to use public transportation or uber/ lyft. Some residents will charge their neighbors for rides. But not Katie. She has been offering free rides to four or five other families that need food. "I don't want my neighbors to have to pay for rides," she said. "I have a big car so we can all go together."

 

LIONS clubs donate $19,525 to FFO's Mobile Food Pantry

Several area Lions clubs have joined together to raise money for Food for Others' mobile food distribution program. Fairfax Lions, Falls Church-Annandale Lions, Burke Lions, Springfield Global Lions, Clifton Lions, and Alexandria Asian-American Lions all made contributions and the Lions of Virginia Foundation (LOVF) matched their donations. Their contribution will help us bring a mobile food pantry to families without transportation.

 

Families in Need and FFO Volunteers Break Ground on New Community Garden

Four families from the Layton Hall community are on their way to growing vegetables for themselves and Food for Others. Thank you Daniels Run Peace Church for donating the land, Merrifield Garden Center and Meadow Farms Nursery for the plants and soil amendments, A Place to Stand for coordinating volunteers, and FFO volunteers for your work and gardening expertise.  

 

Have disposable masks, hand sanitizer, or disposable gloves to spare? We have gone through our supplies and could really use your extras. Thanks for helping keep our staff and clients safe!
